Sierra Nevada Red Fox
The Sierra Nevada Red Fox current state is endangered. The fox has dark red fur, lives in hollow logs or burrows in the soil, and is a very shy animal. The animals are endangered due to trappers wanting their pelts. During the 1940's and 1950's trappers were getting 135 pelts a year. Sierra Nevada Red Fox trapping was banned in 1974. Also logging, grazing, poisoning, and off-road and over-snow vehicles have put this species at risk of extinction. Human interaction has put these species in major risk of extinction. We are taking their habits by logging and grazing. Poisons are killing them when they enter their system and we are turning them into road kill with our off-road vehicles. There are maybe 50 Sierra Nevada Red Foxes left in the world. Something needs to be done to protect these animals before they are gone for good. These animals have been put into protected areas to ensure that they will not become extinct.(6)
